Our final stop but not the final destination

On our final stop of this tour, we will visit the designer's canvas and perhaps even create a work of art.

Canvas

Are you are staring at your designer's canvas right now? Did you start with a template from the Gallery or did you start from scratch with a blank canvas? To make things easier, let us start with a blank canvas. And let us start with a PDF Flyer. Let us walk through creating a simple flyer as an example...

• Create a new PDF Flyer design and open it in the designer.
• You will be looking a blank canvas that probably has a watermark to the effect of "drop a page here". 
• Click on the things button at the top of the right sidebar.
• drag and drop the "1 Page generic" thing found in the Layout category onto the canvas. 
• Congratulations, you have created a PDF Flyer. You could save your design right now and be done but your PDF Flyer would be pretty boring.
• Click on something on the page e.g. Page Body. It will highlight the text box and a couple of badges will appear near the top of the box. The badge on the left is merely the name of the thing. The badge on the right however shows some actionable buttons. The buttons are different depending on the type of thing but typically include...
  
  • Trash - delete the thing. If you click it, it will delete immediately but you could use the Undo button to get it back.
  • Duplicate - will create a copy of the thing typically adjacent.
  • Move - if you click on this button and drag the thing and drop it somewhere else.
• Now that you have Page Body selected, click on the thing style button in the right sidebar.
• You will see all of the various settings and styles that can be tweaked. All we can say at this point is try them out. Tweak the font, color, size, borders, etc. You can't hurt anything.
• Click on the things button in the right sidebar.
• Scroll down and drag a Text thing on the canvas, either above or below the Page Body box. 
• You don't have a masterpiece yet but you're on the way.
• Drag and drop an image. Whoa, the RZ File Manager popup appears where you select from your uploaded images, stock photos, and more. Pick an image.
• Well that image is probably really large. Maybe we should have dropped in some layout things first like some columns and then dropped the image object inside a column.
• The point being, you should consider the layout of your design ahead of time. It is best to drop in your layout rows and columns first. It is not necessary but it makes placing and sizing other things like our image easier.
• Last but not least, click on the things tree button in the right sidebar and practice expanding it and selecting things. Click on a thing or two in the canvas and see how the thing tree responds.

Well you have come a long way on this tour and even have a souvenir design as a keepsake.
